Rodin: A Magnificent Obsession Sculpture from
the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor
Foundation
The Foundation's large survey exhibition, Rodin: A Magnificent Obsession, is a complete retrospective of the artist's career and includes more than 60 bronzes, from small studies to monumental works. The works were chosen according to major projects and themes of Rodin's career (such as The Gates of Hell, The Burghers of Calais, and partial figures). The exhibition spans the length of Rodin's career from his earliest bust of his father, Jean Baptiste Rodin, to his later studies of dancing figures. In addition to the bronzes, there are works on paper, photographs, portraits of the artist, and an educational model that demonstrates the complexities of the lost-wax casting process, Rodin's favored method of sculptural reproduction.

Rodin: In His Own Words Selections from the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Foundation
By the latter part of his life Auguste Rodin had achieved success on an international scale. His work was part of major museum collections in Europe and the United States and he died with the knowledge that an entire museum in Paris would be devoted to his work. He was revered by his contemporaries and his opinions and views on art were listened to with great respect and adoration. These views were disseminated through several books published under his own name as well as by biographies, interviews, and countless letters. Together these present a vibrant image of the great sculptor and his work. Rodin: In His Own Words features over 30 works by Rodin paired with quotes by
the sculptor that illuminate his
works.
